BLUF:  Use points to get amazing value if not ONCE IN A LIFETIME experiences; especially for military stationed overseas!

Many of us have gotten pretty good at the miles and points game.  We slowly grew out our collection of credit cards and developed a game plan to maximize the points by matching credit cards to specific purchases.  We gathered enough to get us that free flight to Hawaii or Europe, maybe even on business class and gotten hooked.  But I’m here to tell you this is only the start; you haven’t truly experienced the potential of what points & miles can do for you until you have won a moment/experience!

United MileagePlus Experiences is offering a chance to win an all-encompassing trip to next years Winter Olympics in South Korea to include:

  • 2 round trip business class tickets
  • 5 nights hotel stay
  • Tickets to the opening ceremony & 9 events
  • Breakfast and meal vouchers

What are these experiences?  These are unique opportunities to enjoy an array of experiences or events from trips to the Super Bowl, concerts of the hottest singers, or private dinners by 3 star Michelin chefs!  I know, I know….These trips sound amazing but who the hell has over 600,000 miles just laying around!  I’m here to tell you that they are not all over the top experiences that needs a million miles to win.  A lot of they are actually very reasonable yet they go unnoticed by the masses or people just can’t match the very specific dates of some of these events.

Delta’s SkyMiles Experiences is currently auctioning access to the Cayman Cookout Food Festival and 4 nights at the Ritz-Carlton, Cayman Island!

I have no idea who Laird Hamilton & Gabby Reece are but if you need to get ready for your PT test, mind as well do it in Hawaii. 3 full days of activities, all meals included and 3 nights at the Westin Princeville Resort currently up for auction at Marriott’s Reward Moments.

Now military stationed overseas can really take advantage of some of these events.  Trust me, not all of these events are hundreds of thousands of points!  The unique situation as US credit card holders overseas makes you winning an overseas events much more likely.  See, most European or Asian citizens collect their regional company points and most stateside collectors can’t flex their schedule to accommodate an event so far away with little confirmed lead time of winning an event to having to be there.

Someone stationed in Europe should really take advantage of this one.  A perfect night completely planned out for the romantically challenged and currently only 1 bid for 16,500 SPG points at SPG Moments!

  • One-night  Hotel Alfonso XIII, a Luxury Collection Hotel, checking in on Saturday, 25 November 2017, and checking out Sunday, 26 November 2017
  • Dinner for two (2) at the hotel created by Chef Kamilla Seidler
  • A horse carriage ride for two (2) to and from Royal Alcazar
  • Access for two (2) to the concert honoring Teresa Berganza
  • One (2) gala gift bag

My first SPG Moment experience

I know my strengths and weaknesses and the ability to plan anything romantic for my wife would fall in the latter category.  If only there was a way to overcome my weakness with something that I excel at???  And as if being presented with a gift from God, I came across the SPG Moments program Valentines Day 2016.

Success!!! Valentines day planning complete doing what I do best!

Everything my SPG Moment included for only 28,500 SPG points!  It would have been cheaper but someone else had the same idea that I had and have to go into overtime bidding!

Our residential suite at the Le Meridien, Shanghai

The Hu Club, 66 stories above Shanghai all to ourselves on Valentines night, although probably easier to pull off since the Chinese don’t celebrated it to the extent we do?

Our Valentines Day Menu at Hu 66

Our private singer, accommodating all of our requests

Wife and I meeting the chef that prepared our dinner!

What an amazing night!  Can’t wait for our next moment!

Has anyone else been lucky enough to win one of these moments?  Which one have you been aiming to win?
